All the ones I have seen are 1/2", the ends of the inner bushing sleeve lock into the special washers and are held in place by the clamping force of the bolt. If the bolt is a little loose fitting in the bushing it's no problem, it wont move around when clamped in place.

You are right the bolt under the differential is 1/2". The TA end is 5/8".
