Default 81 removing computer and ALL (revisited topic)

Hi..I know there are several threads on this..some deteriorated into snivel..so..here..rather than debate the pro and con..I'd like to have the "How to..and steps" that I need, as this is to be done..period..as a prior owner had started the change. Here is what I have..81, 350, 4 speed manual, all smog equip is removed, stock headers but new exhaust and no catalytic and NOW already has Edelbrock carb 1406 (non egr, 600cfm , Edelbrock Performer cam 2102, with timing link chain and gears, and Edelbrock Intake 21011, with the adapter for the carb. BUT the computer seems still connected to orig stock distrib..starts ok, runs fine..but initial timing has to be set too much static adv at 16 deg..to get the full advance at 2800-3000rpm....It seems P.O did not "complete the job'..I think the ECC needs to be completely disconnected and a new distributor that can be optimally set, (and fit under hood) ..so..comments appreciated on what new distributor, final steps to install and time, and to be sure all vac lines are taken care of..some needed?? some not..and keeping the tach running. Not sure what I know and don't know, so may have left something out or not asked the right questions..so lemme have it !!
Thanks,
Nick

Just get a pre 81 gm hei distributor with vac advance. You can use your old dist cap and coil and your power wire and tach wire will plug right in. You can get the full vac advance from the front port on the edel 1406 , the one on the right side as viewed from the front.
