Default Power window motor replacement

Not long ago I posted a question about replacing the power window motor on my ’79. No one seemed to have the answer, so now that I have completed the job, I’m posting this for the next guy who has a similar issue. My window was stuck in the down position, and I was asking about the reason for putting the window part way up when replacing the motor. The window needs to be at least part way up or there isn’t enough room to get to the bolts that hold the motor.

There is a hole in the main regulator gear that will align with a hole in the main section of the regulator when the glass is about 2/3 of the way up. If you put a bolt in the holes when they are lined up (I used a 3/8x1” ), it will hold the window and prevent it from dropping when the motor is removed. In the photo below you can see the hole about halfway between the spring and the motor.

Once the window is locked in place, remove the three 7/16" bolts holding the motor in place. You can see them in the picture around the motor shaft. Once the bolts have been removed, the motor will come out with a little fooling around.

In order to get my window glass up to align the holes, I used a piece of 2x2 to pry up on the glass as I activated the power window switch. This got the motor to start working and I could position the glass wherever I wanted it.

Hopefully this will help the next guy who searches for 'power window motor replacement'.
