I finally got my 77 back on the road after a suspension rebuild and new exhaust. I put on sidepipes and they required me to remove the z-bar and now my clutch has started to slip when I shift fast or give it a lot of gas. I noticed that I don't have a clutch return spring could this be causing my issue or maybe I messed something up with the z bar when re-installing it or is it for sure time for a clutch replacement? I wouldn't think anything I've done would cause the issue, but it just seems too coincidental to me that my clutch would go from being fine to slipping like crazy after I messed with the linkage. Any help would be very much appreciated.
The only possible reason the Z-bar could cause what you are describing is if the adjustment is so far off the clutch is not releasing. Hard to imagine how that could happen, but nothing is impossible. You should be able to detect a little play in the clutch fork when the clutch is released. In other words the throwout bearing should not be tight against the clutch fingers when the clutch is released. If this checks out, you need a clutch.

I checked my clutch adjustment and it's all good, so it looks like I'll have to be replacing my clutch here pretty soon. Thanks for the info.
