The pre-load (used, not new) for the 79 is easy to find, but the in. lb. number for the 80 is not so easy. Source show the pre-load for the Dana 44, but not specifically for the Dana in the 80. I don't want to set the wrong pre-load and have it self destruct. Does anybody have the specific number for an 80? The shop manual only has the new setting. I do not have a chassis manual for an 80.
Here is the Dana/Spicer service manual for the Dana 44 in the 80-82 Corvettes. You can also find this if you google or go to Spicer's web site and search for it.

The manual has good info on setting up the diff with new bearings.
Figure 67 101
Using an inch-pound torque wrench as shown ,
the pinion rotating torque should read 15-35 lbs. in.
(1.69-3.95 N·m) with new bearings. To increase the
preload, remove shims, to decrease the preload ,
add shims.
I only installed new seals and want to set the pre-load using the existing bearings/races. That pre-load for the used bearings is not there or in my service manual. The 80 does not use crush washers, it uses shims.
