Matching numbers is always good if you would like to take it back to stock for collector value but a 78 has no value for that as yet anyway. Looks like a clean tight car.
Think it would look good with some polished centerlines, give it that custom 80s-90s look lower it a tad. Lots of flash in Nevada/Vegas plain jane doesnt cut it out there. Good pinstriper is hard to find.
Needs more scoop
425hp with stock heads/cam hmm.....gonna take a lot. Not saying impossible like to hear how some have done it.
Absolutely a stock BLOCK can do that. Even a 2-bolt. You just need a steel crank, forged rods, forged pistons, and a really big cam.
The wrinkle is that the stock heads will limit the cam you can put in the car. And I haven't checked, but porting cast iron heads has got to be a pain in the butt. And not worth the money.
The car can be "numbers matching" with new heads. The heads don't have numbers on them.
So...by "numbers matching" and the statement of 425, my assumption is that the ONLY thing that came with the car relative to the engine is the block. Everything else was replaced to achieve that sort of number.
If it even matters.
The rest of the car...I don't mind it. Certainly seen lots worse. Agree with others...a set of rims and getting lowered 2 inches would do wonders to the look.

'cept it's 400 miles from Vegas.
Maybe we can get it a starring role on Counting Cars.
I read through all the posts in this thread before I opened the craigslist add and took a look for myself. I was amazed at all the negative comments about someone else's Corvette. This car is clean. It could be their pride and joy and they may be a member of this forum. I've been to a lot of car shows, and seen all kinds of paint jobs I would not want on my car, but I had to sit back and admire the "art" in front of me. The paint on this Corvette is beautiful, Not for me, but my classic white may not be for them. If you go to G.M. Performance you will find that for around $7,000.00 you can get a new create engine with 480hp and for a few grand more over 500hp. So the 425hp in the add seems very reasonable. New glass; my '73 has a small chip on top of the passenger side window. When I replace that one window, if the tint is slightly off I'll replace all my glass. Yes I'm ****. I bought my '73 with "new brakes all around". I was happy it had new pads, even though I'll replace the entire system it was nice to know, what I had would get me around for a while. If this Corvette is as clean under the hood and chassis as the interior and exterior, I would say it's worth the asking price, even though I would invest in a new original color paint job (unless the original color was anything but white). If you are the owner of the car in this add and a member of this forum. Nice car, and good luck on your sale!!!
I'd echo your comments, Mr. OldCarBum. While your engine comparison is a little apples and oranges (fuel injected 6.2L with all the newest technology vs. a gumpy old 5.7L...not the fairest of comparisons), I don't disagree with the conclusion that the stated horsepower is certainly achievable with a 2-bolt engine and a fair level of expertise.
It is a decent looking car with what appears to be a very nice custom paint job. Not for everyone, but as you point out, a white car isn't for everyone. Nor is a black car. Nor is a red car. Nor is a green car with yellow interior. Except in Green Bay, of course.
The price isn't crazy and it appears well presented.
I'd be a little embarrassed if the owner saw this thread's negative commentary beyond "it's nice but not my cup of tea". That's what I would feel comfortable telling the guy in person, so that's what I feel comfortable posting on this forum.

From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Of course the shortblock can make 500HP or more but not with the stock heads, it's near impossible. How do i know? when I first bought my vette I had the short block done with flat top pistons that bumped the compression up and a fairly healthy cam, the stock heads were put on and it didn't really feel like it had that much more power than the stock 195Hp.
I then put on put on aftermarket heads and the power increased dramatically. However it still only made 300RWHP which would be a tad over 400Gross Hp.
Maybe we can get it a starring role on Counting Cars.
Only if Elvira was starring
Cant say Ive never knocked anything but most will come from those whos cars arent as nice or are from the "its a pos because it isnt stock" camp. Looks like the interior may be oyster? wonder if it was silver originally-
"Back in the day" we only had the stock heads to work with. A good machinist cold make stock heads flow and produce awesome torque and horsepower. Just because the heads are stock on the outside, it's what is on the inside that matters. Didn't your Mothers teach you guys anything????
Back in the old days I tubed out a set of double hump heads and got slightly more than 300 c.f.m on the intake side and nearly 80% on the exhaust.lots of younger guys don't believe it but it could be done. Now I must admit it took 3 cans of bars leak to seal it up tight.but I never had a problem on the street. But I could never figure out why my heater didn't work too well.
