C3 LS3/LSA Supercharger Install
Finally got around to pulling the trigger on the LSA supercharger install on my 74 Stingray. I'd planned this for quite a spell, and went with a high rise L-88 hood. Glad I did. Enjoy.
First up is the belt arrangement. The "up and over" setup is required on our C3's due to proximity of the frame rails. This setup also separates the accessory drive belts from the supercharger drive. The accessories use a 6 rib drive belt while the supercharger is an 8 rib drive
The LSA balancer is a different animal all it's own. Instead of the stock one, this one allows easy supercharger boost changes, albeit a bit pricey. I found mine as a new ATI "blem" that had a few paint imperfections. About half the price. I opted for a 10% overdrive pulley
The water pump has to be changed out as well. The ZL1 and the CTS-V both share this waterpump, and is used in supercharged applications. It has idler/tensioner mounting the LS1 lacks, as well as it changes the blet spacing closer to the block like the late model LSx Corvettes use
I was able to re-utilize the "up and over" Holley alternator bracket for the supercharger build. This is done with different depth spacers and bolts. This kit converts the Fbody belt spacing to the much closer to the block Corvette style. This saves having to buy the entire kit.
The supercharger requires a water to air intercooler as well as an intercooler radiator. I simply don't have the required room up front, so the rear is the next viable location. Even as far back as I could take it, it was far too close to the mufflers for my taste
A quick mock up, build a few brackets and paint and she was ready to mount. This bracket will also be used to mount the Bosch intercooler water pump. The intercooler pump and Spal fan relays will be triggered using the fuel pump relay. This will insure if the motor is running, so is the pump and fan.
With the radiator installed, I mounted the Bosch intercooler pump
I ended up having to remove the rear tailpipe/mufflers and reconfigure them, keeping the mufflers as far away from the radiator as possible. Here's what I came up with.
Moving back to the front, it was time to remove the LS3 intake, water pump as well as harmonic balancer.
I just had to see what it looked like, and if my measurements were correct. This puppy is tall.
I've had a lot of people inquire as to how tall the LSA supercharger is sitting in a C3. This will give you an idea
More to come!

I can't think of another way to get some fresh air into that engine compartment, or at least let some of the hot underhood air out.
