I am in the middle of restoring a 74 454 . I am going to install tall valve covers and I think they will hit the booster. Is there another booster I can switch to or anything else I can do to avoid the valve covers from hitting the booster?
The street rodder suggestion is good. Check the bolt pattern to the firewall on yours and compare to the replacement. Also, check the rod length of the booster to the brake peddle hookup for size. Hint - go to NAPA and do the measurements on one vs taking yours out.
Where did you guys get the one w/ the flat mounting plate? mine has a larger plate w/ a bend on the top. Gonna have to redrill it to make it fit, no biggie. Just gotta love these hydroboosters ;) :D
Groovy, what fittings are those? They are AN adapters right?
Just received a hydraulic booster from Paul at Hydroboost. The unit looks complete and professional. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. I hope to install it in the next couple of weeks.
I ran into this same problem when I dropped a BB 509 in my 69.
I'm running Jesell shaft mouted rockers so I had to use tall valve covers.
I tried all of those places for a smaller booster with no luck.
No one seemed to know or make anything no matter who I called.
Went back to manual brakes.
Of coasre manual brakes require a little more pedal effort but that did not bother me. I thought of the Hydra-boost thing but I have been trying to keep a stock look as much as I can.
Guys Hydraboost solves all your weak brake problems. Any unit from at least 82 to 94 from anything GM with a diesel almost bolts right in. They are very compact and extremely powerful. They are all the same mounting brakets, just the internal piston changes with truck size,
I didn't know thery were that hard to come by. My local wrecker has lots at $50 CDN each.
I recently shipped one overseas and it was about $120 CDn.
