79 fuel gauge
I was in the process of replacing the shifter center counsole, after removing the upper cousole with the gauge. the fuel gauge reamin at 1/2 tank, I was going to replace the fuel sending unit thinking since the car sat for a while and it is not giving me the correct fuel level and it is the problem.
After disconnecting the any inputs to the fuel gauge, shouldn't it return to empty? With the gauge indicating half full, is this a sign that it is bad? I would like to replace it before I complete the center counsole installation.

The dash unit testing is in that repair file posted above. Follow the link above and it will show you it's very easy to test.

thank you! I found your document moments after I posted my question. Your document sure made feel like I know my stuff, easy to follow and troubleshot the problem easy. Since this car had sat for a long time, I am will be replacing the sending unit.
