What is your budget, HP goal, and how will the car be used primarily 90% of the time? The L-82 engine has some nice components in stock form. I just did a rebuild of my 66,000 miles stock L-82 engine in 2014 with a 4 speed 3.70 gears but in my case I wanted to keep it as much an L-82 as possibly visually but with much more power. I had the block bored .030, reconditioned the forged L-82 rods, reconditioned the forged L-82 crank, reused the aluminum L-82 intake, reused the Holley 4175 650 CFM Q jet replacement carb on the car since 1985, reused the L-82 valve covers, L-82 air intake assembly, L-82 oil pan, etc BUT replaced the 882 iron heads with AFR aluminum 180 64 CC heads, Howards Roller cam (.525/.525, LSA 110, duration 219/225, operating range 1,500-5,600 RPM), JE Forged Racing Pistons and Rings, and Felpro 1094 .015 head gasket (total compression 10.2 versus L-82's 8.9:1). My L-82 355 now makes serious power and is more than a match for most 383's other than a built 383 making over 500 Gross HP. Unless you are looking for most HP possible from a 350 block, my option may be an alternative for you....
I have Long Tube 1 3/4 inch headers going on this summer and expect the L-82 355 to make after the install about 425-450 Gross HP with the Howards roller cam I have which is designed for strong mid range torque, good bottom end power, and very good high end HP up to 6K RPM.
