This is the sound I hear when coming to a slow stop. Has anybody had this before? I do not remember reading about it in any of the other topics. I kinda puts me down and makes me think im going to crash just out of now where? PLease help
If not, that may localize it to a halfshaft problem (or maybe differential).
If so, it could be halfshaft, driveshaft, differential, or ???
I guess it could also be a bad mount or maybe even brakes.
I used to get an occassional "clunk" (not sure of the difference between a clunk and a "dunk" though) from my differential when going around turns. A fluid and posi-additive change got rid of it. If yours hasn't been changed in a while, it's good PM and possibly a cheap fix.
If you hear this sound coming from the rear of the car ONLY on acceleration or deceleration, then it may be the front differential bushing. The front yoke of the differential is tied into the frame with a large rubber doughnut that has a metal insert and is bolted in. When these wear badly you get this sound which is the sound of the metal yoke on the differential hitting the metal part of the frame where it connects.
Could also be bad u-joints, bad trailing arm bearings, or differential internal problem.
Jack up the car, put it on stands and have someone rotate the tires by hand. Listen carefully to try to isolate the sound.
When mine was in need of posi-lube/rearend oil change - the "dunk" was most noticable when I can to a stop while slightly turning and could even be felt in the car.
If it is just dirty fluid - easy fix is to pull the plug, go in through the right wheel well, suck out the old (I bought a specail tool, but am thinking a turkey baster would work), and add some new --- I did it twice with genuine Chevy fluids - that was almost 2 years ago.
Sorry. I was in a hurry when I wrote this. Let me specify. It is coming from the front of the car. I couple of weeks ago I had the half shafts off and checked the U-joints. They were fine. I can sometimes feel it in the floor. I have redone all 4 calipers. But it definately sounds like it is comeing from the front.
Changing the diff. fluid sounds like a good idea to do anyways though. I'll probably go ahead and do that, hoping it my improve something.
Could it be the controll arm bushings? Maybe worn. The bolts also have a tendency to work loose. Worth a quick check anyway. I switched to poly bushings and have had to re-thighten mine several times over 2 years. They are now on my frequent check list.

This, I think, is the most probable problem. I know my suspension needs to be rebuilt pretty bad. And that is the area that it is coming from. I just got home from work, and I might go out and drive it a little. I'll drive it slow, kick it into nuetral, and then try to stop to see if I get the same noise.
I don't suppose anybody knows a good place in Indiana that does good suspension work do they? I would love to do it myself, but if I did, it would take atleast another year. I just dont have the time. My garage is a half hour away from my house and its hard to find time to get over there. Thanks for any help.
Crawl under and check the attachment points for the lower control arms. I had mine in the alignment shop not long ago and was shocked to find the lower control arms had moved to the back almost 2" -the back bolts had backed out - even had to replace one side bolts onld ones had escaped completely. Luckily I was able to persuade the bushings to go back into the back of the control arms without too much trouble.
I had the same soud on my '95 nizzan pickup daily driver, and thought wheel bearings. Not, the front wheels were cupped real bad due to worn shocks. If you suspect worn tires try swapping rear to front and see if noise stops. A new set of tires and shocks and mine is fine. I know it wasn't the Vette, but it might help. :seeya
