Default Door hinge pin replacement question

Has anyone done this and how hard is it? I'm trying to replace the drivers side upper hinge pin and I've got the new pin and bushings but don't see how to retain the new pin once in. Does it have to be crimped once installed? Or does it go in from the top, opposite from the original that goes in from the bottom? Please help!!!!

Don't know why or care why, but when we put new bushings on my friend's 73, we had to grind part of the head off of the pin. It came out shaped like a "D". The flat spot was turned to clear the fender. Tapped it into place and it is still working fine.

The pin should go in for the top. Cut the pin so it is only as long as it needs to be. Also grinding a flat on one side of the head as mentioned will make it easier to go in. Mark the position of the hinge bolts and loosing the door side of the hinge to allow the door to move outward as much as possible.

I have done more of these than I can count. The factory put them in from the top ,but they also built them as an assembly completely off the car ,so they didnt have the issue of it hitting the fender .Unless you want to start removing interior panels to remove the inner part of the hinge ,you will have to install it from the bottom .It wont fall out due to the sline looking teeth near the head on the pin. :seeya
