Heater core by-pass
I'm replacing my leaking heater core, everything out now.
I was thinking to install a by-pass valve vacuum operated, like modern cars do.

Can somebody tell me where exactly to connect the vaccumm line in the car to properly operate it? I guess I will have to use an Y shape fitting to get 2 outlets.
My idea of course is that the valve opens when the heater mode is running
BTW, my car is a 74 with A/C

I used this diagram and connected the vac hose to the new valve from one of the connections that kept vac at the valve in all cases except when the console dial was at the heat position. Sorry I cant remember which one it was now.
I mounted the valve below where the hoses enter the heater core.
Willcox publish some good diagrams of the heater vac hose circuits, I don't know if I can publish these but I'm sure a web search will throw them up for you.

I guess this one goes on the 5/8 hose antit's vacuum operated too.
Is that not the factory, vacuum operated on/off for water flow?
I did a heater core repair on my '82 a couple of months ago and the diagram is remarkably similar.

I'll check this afternoon, I don't know if that chart belong to my year 74.
I don't have any white stripped vacuum hose coming out from my system, but it's true that the outlet for the white one exist, but there is a piece of silicone, like a welded tap, which doesn't allow to connect anything unless you drill a hole.
So, apparently can be connected on that one if needed in order to operate the cutt-off valve.
Here you can see the free outlet #2, and how is clogged/welded with a piece of silicone.

You will probably have to drill (or what ever) so you can put that white striped hose to the water control valve.
I looked at the chart closely and see that the white stripe goes direct from water control valve to the selector. On an 82 there is a little gizmo on top of the heater box that operates as the on/off for the blended heat/air.
Do you have the water control valve installed?

As far as I know, port #2 ,white one, would cut off the flow only when AC max position position selected.
