You have 3 basic choices
1) a rebuilt box - either your own or from a vendor. If your own former Forum member GTR1999 has been recommended by many - do a Search.
2) an updated replacement box - these are based on the Delphi box used in 2000 jeeps and modified by Borgeson to fit C3's. Yhe advantage is a bolt in fit and the elimination of external power steering cylinder and hoses that always seem to leak. Again, do a Search for Borgeson.
3) a replacement steering system - these replace the entire steering box with a rebuilt power rack & pinion adapted from an earlier GM vehicle. Do a Search for Steeroids.
FWIW, I changed to a Borgeson box and couldn't be happier. Others will swear by the other choices.

If you're sticking with a stock box, have Gary (GTR1999) blueprint yours. Big difference when he did the one in my vette.

I had my '73 steering box rebuilt a while back and I used Vansteel out of Clearwater Florida. They did a terrific job and it looks and performs as if new.
I would much prefer to have an original box rebuilt by one of the well known Corvette experts, including Bairs and/or Gary, than purchase a rebuilt one from a parts house. It may be a bit of an inconvenience to have the car down while yours is being rebuilt, but in the end you will have no doubt about the quality of the work.
Good luck... GUSTO

We have had real good luck with the Borgeson box, it's a fairly simple swap. I would recommend using our steering box brace in conjunction with it. We offer the box and brace, I have attached a link to each.
