Default TH400 kickdown solenoid test

Trying to get the kickdown working on my 80 with a transplanted 68 TH400. It has been butchered by bubba, I have been reading all the threads here and have learned a lot about the TH400. Mine has two spade terminals on it and if I am correct the bottom one supplies power to the solenoid. Since the wiring is butchered I ran and 12 volt hot wire and touched it to the bottom spade terminal. That should make the solenoid click, correct? I get no click so is it safe to assume I need a new solenoid?

Yes, the bottom(vertical) terminal is the correct one. And yes, you should hear a audible click but the click is pretty faint so listen closely. Another test is to use a DMM to check resistance of that terminal to ground, not sure what the resistance spec on the solenoid is but a open circuit would indicate a open winding in the solenoid or a problem with the internal wiring.
Good Luck, Doug
