I have a 1976 L-48. I want to replace the Rochester Quadrajet with a Holley 650. Also, I want to replace the stock intake with an Edelbrock.
Can someone tell me which model Edelbrock I need? Of course I want to make certain my hood closes on. Thanks!

the standard Performer eps (non rpm or air gap...) dont see many people going smaller on carbs... 650 is plenty for that engine though I would stay with the quadrajet If the one I had worked... (mine came in a box with the car but had been dropped and looked rough.) have the holley 670 avenger now works well but needed to be rejetted to do so. I sold the new performer intake and chinese cast carter/edelbrock carb that was on it when I bought it... aluminum carbs dont respond well the ethonal.

They Holley's a fine carb, but if there is something wrong with the Quadrajet, you can rebuild it for a lot less than the cost of a new Holley. It only takes an afternoon, and you don't have to worry about routing a new fuel line.
speadbore type holley?
Eddy carbs aint bad but always had aproblem in hard corners and hot restarts (back in the 90s even) seem to heatsoak real easy
Not sure if you were talking to me but no... I never bolted the original intake back on...I took advantage of the 1 1/2 or so extra clearence I have with the greenwood hood and bought a polished RPM clone and a wooden spacer.
Funny thing though... The new performer that was on my car when I bought it was a spread bore and there was a 1/2" aluminum spread to square bore adapter between it and the eddy carb... Guess the PO tried the quadrajet with it before giving up on it? I had clear jelly everywhere in my eddy carb after I left fuel sit in it for a few months.. what a mess! No issues so far with the holley except replacing a metering block that was already damaged when I won the carb on ebay used.

I went from a Demon 800 to an Edelbrock 650 and could Not be happier I was over carb-ing the engine and the change made a Huge Improvement.

I bet. the 650 edlebrock would be the newer AVS (vac secondary) design which overcomes some of the weaknesses of the older 600 (625) and larger 800 carter/weber design.
I stuck with the 670cfm avenger for my performance 355 build for this reason.. To many though the slight WOT advantage of a bigger carb wins over throttle response everywhere else..
The rochester carb is 750cfm but is a progressive carb from what I understand so it only gives the engine the amount of flow it needs... Superior performance (more versatile and efficient ) to the simple Holley and edelbrocks in theory but over-complicated and unfortunately too confusing for many mechanics and people to grasp hence the bad rap they get..

I went from basically all edelbrock stuff, and had issues with clearance on stock height hood for my 75.
I only noticed after the carb sputtered hard on corners, which when i finally decided to look into it, my carb was melting my air cleaner and charring my hood liner.
I'm using a standard square bore Edelbrock Performer with an Edelbrock 1406 carburetor.
Additionally, I have a 1/2" thick phenolic spacer between the carb and intake.
With a drop base air cleaner, I still have clearance under my 1977 stock hood liner.
I am using a standard Edelbrock square bore Performer manifold with an Edelbrock 1407 carb with a drop base air cleaner under my 78 Pace Car hood with no issues.
