I have a '72 coupe I am trying to find a cleaner for. I originally had a holley carb in there, but wanted an elec choke-so put the Edlebrock in.
Now it sits too high and can't close the hood-trying to find a cleaner that will fit-anyone with ideas? The fuel line seems be the problem, can I redirect it?
I have a 72 with the same carb on it. Edelbrock sells a bango fitting that solves the problem of the fuel line. (I made my own special, but that's beside the point.) For the air cleaner, I purchased two different 14" open elements. One was the GM parts and the other a Mr. Gasket. I use the drop base from the GM and the top lid of the Mr. Gasket. This allows a 2 1/2 " filter and slightly over 3/4" clearance at the air horn.
Be careful about your fuel pressure. Edelbrocks don't like more than 6 lbs. You'll run rich by overcoming the needle seats with a stock fuel pump unless you plumb in a fuel regulator.
Re: cleaner for Edlebrock carb? (pats406nitrovette)
hey thanks guys for the help!
pulled the edlebrock off last night and thought, what the heck will put the holley back on because I have a cleaner that fits and it's still warm out, don't need the choke-well, the holley is leaking, had fuel all over the place.
back to edlebrock, now that I have the part # will see if I can find that cleaner!
I couldn't find anybody that had the banjo but autozone ordered for me.
For the air cleaner looks for one that is a drop base and also get a big one a 14x3 will fit. I got the Edelbrock one, autozone had it in stock and it will allow enough room to run with out the banjo until you can find one.
Don't forget your K&N air filter to go in it, boy I like to spend other peoples money. :D
Also it a good idea to get a new gasket each time you swap out the carb too.
Looks like you have the Edelbrock version of the carter carb. These are a pain to use on the vette because of the low hood clearance. I went with the Edelbrock Rochester type which fits all aircleaners. I also run Holley list 6210 on the car for more performance. This is a direct Rochester type replacement so it fits all aircleaners also.
I ran the Carter type on my old Blazer engine and used a banjo fitting to cure the problem. Not perfect but it worked.
Actually, when I first installed mine it was with rubber gas hose clamped to the straight out fitting. I made my own down standing fitting because maybe, just maybe, the stress from the cleaner lid on the rubber hose would cause a leak.
