Default C3 radiator Replacement

I need some help. Has any one replaced the stock radiator in a 1978 corvette L48 with an aluminum 4 core ( Champion #mc718 ) ? I ordered it on line. The ad said the it was a direct replacement. I bought the radiator, although I believed my L48 had a 2 or 3 core. After researching further I found that the manufacture recommend that the rubber saddle mount be notched, making the round corners square. They advised that this was a simple fix and offered no other options. I tried this and the radiator does not seem to fit the brackets. They appear to be short. They barely fit around the radiator and I have metal (aluminum) to metal contact in places. Was there a difference between the L82 and l48 brackets ? I saw on line two different replacement rubber saddles ( 2" and 2 5/8" ) but the brackets look to be the same. Is there a better modification I could do ? It seems like someone would make a wider bracket. I need a new idea. These radiators are all over the internet, I sure somebody found away to over come this issue. Thanks...
