Question for paint and body people. I'm restoring my 69 vette. You can see in this pic the patch panel seems to be from a later year vette. The po says its from a 73. Am I going to have problems with paint or panels expanding more than other? I'm currently using west system with chop. Thanks!! Also the market light has been corrected with the smaller 69 version.
You're going to have an issue with the repair expanding and contracting for sure.
Repairs to the side of panels tend to be a bit kinder to the eye than those on top and holes on top, (and color will also depend on how this shows). Forget about hiding holes on top.. it can't be done and I can always find them after they've had plenty of time to cure out.
What you might do.. is an old trick we used to do on the factory bonding seams.. We'd rough up on top the seam, then smear coat a 50/50 mixture of bondo and metal glaze.... I've got a 72 that is painted black right now and it's been 12 or so years since paint and I still can't see the bonding seams.... (but they are on the side, not the top).
