Hi guys... a year and a half ago i started a project to get the '75 to pass emissions... well the car is now 27... I think the law is if its over 25... no big thing, doesnt need to, its a classic...
But... This will open up the doors in my mind to go a little wild with the engine etc...
So, do any of you NC guys know the laws on emissions testing? When am i excempt...
Keep in mind that if you live in an area with air pollution problems, such as Atlanta, that the law on inspections could change at anytime placing you back under big brother's watchful eye.
Per the web site: "All gasoline-powered vehicles less than 25 years old and registered in the following counties: WAKE, FORSYTH, GUILFORD, DURHAM, GASTON, CABARRUS, MECKLENBURG, ORANGE and UNION will require an exhaust emission test through December 31, 2005. Effective July 1, 2002, vehicle models 1996 and newer, excluding new vehicles(vehicles that have never been titled), shall receive a new type of emissions test known as OBD II(On Board Diagnostics)."
But keep on thing in mind. The exemptions are from testing to get the vehicle registered. It is not an exemption from the law. The law is Federal and the state does not have the authority to exempt any vehicle from the Federal law, just from the testing to get plates on the car.
If you rebuild the stock block (numbers match car for 1975), then put a roller cam such as ZZ4 profile, you could have an extra 100hp and still run cleaner than the motor is today. The new roller cams have very short duration which greatly reduces emissions, but the high lift gives more torque and HP.
All you would need to do is bolt the emissions stuff back on at some time if required. Not that the EGR helps reduce pinging!!
You could move to SC. Not only are there not any emmissions testing, there are'nt any inspections what so ever! The one good thing about this state  Makes for some interesting vehicles on the road though
