Just rented a trailer for this weekend's road trip to Tampa. Plan is to interchange towing and driving the 74 back to Jackson, MS. Question is: what type of tiedowns do I need to get? I've never hauled a car before, just mowers. The trailer has no sides at all so I'll need to get some stout tiedowns to keep it from shifting. Also, where should the tiedowns be attached to on the vette?

The tie downs you need are the ones that are about 2inches wide and are usually about 20.00 a piece .You can probably find them at Home Depot or any trailer place..There are some oblong holes in the frame ,I think on a c3 they are on the side of the frame rails behind the front wheels and in front of the back wheels.

If you don't plan on trailering Corvettes a lot, it may be worth your effort to check with U-Haul about renting one. You can rent one for $50.00 a day (or at least you could a few months back) . They rent the nice car haulers equipped with tie straps that fit over the front tires, and a chain to tie it down in the back. It is equipped with a brake and it pulls nice. I rented one to go from central Alabama to north Ohio, and consider it money well spent. I had no worries about the car shifting on the trailer. Good luck with whatever you decide !

I had to use a U-Haul to get my blown motor Vette home. I had to back it on because of my long nose. I used their big straps and went around the rear spring right at the pumkin (2 wide straps). In front I went around each front A-arm to tension the whole car

U-HAUL :yesnod: worked like a champ--harness's fit over the front tires and secure down--also over the rear axel to the trailer frame--nor bouncy bouncy at all. Was still 50 bucks a day if you bring the trailer back to point of origin. I think it is a bit more if you drop off at distant location.

If you rented a trailer from a national company. They should have the tie down straps you need or they can be bought from Sams Wholesale for $16.95 each.
