Looks like I might have some discretionary income shortly. :) I'm thinking about a new intake and carb for my 76 L48. Does any one know the height demensions of the stock intake? I always hear of problems with clearances under the hood when a new carb/intake are installed. Anyone care to make a recommendation... I'll be keeping the stock cam and ramhorns. The EGR will be missing too...
Edelbock Performer, like 2101 is about all that will fit with your stock hood and stock air cleaner assembly, and not sure if you'll see / notice any significant performance improvement with just intake and carb. replacement, unless your current carb. is really in need of a rebuild.
If it was me, I'd save up a few more coin, and wait until I could also do a cam change, will require new lifters, probably new valve springs and new timing set(chain and gears), but by the time you're done, you will have a noticiable improvement in performance. You can pick up a new cam/lifter set from Summit (their brand) for not much money, maybe $100 or less, and not much more including new valve springs.
Edelbrock Performer EPS intake with any Holly...along with a drop base air cleaner fits under a stock L-48 hood with 1.5" to spare. A Summit brand chrome drop base 3" element air cleaner for $17.00 works just fine for me. The EPS is supposed to out perform a standard performer...Can't say I have the stats, but I love mine. It has all the ports for all excessories. Good luck in your decision .... :cheers: :cheers:

Lots of good information here. Thanks guys...
I still haven't made any decisions yet but I'm leaning toward a Demon carb; Intake and aircleaner, dunno... :crazy:
A Weiand "Action Plus" Intake will fit for sure and accepts either Square Bore or Spread Bore Carbs. Gotta agree with the others on your choice of mods. An intake and carb swap arent going to gain you diddly squat as far as seat of the pants feel. How about a true dual exhaust system? Now there would be some Bang For The Buck.......GOOD LUCK. :cheers:
I would take QwickVet up on that offer. I did mods to my motor that are in my sig. I used the ZZ4 intake with an Edelbrock 750. I found that even with my mods the 750 was just a bit too much carb. I went down to a 600 and the motor really came alive. Throttle responce was greatly increased. And the ZZ4 was a direct replacement. Totally plummed for water and vacuum lines that the Corvette needs.
Worked for me anyway,

The main issue I have is with the carb. The Qjet is almost dead and needs to retire. I figure if the carb has to come off, why not replace the intake too. The white princess is just a weekend driver so I'm not really looking for seat-of-the-pants HP gains. With the intake I was just hoping for a little more response. Dual exhausts have been on my list for a long time.
Unfortunately, a few big $$$ items had to come first; brakes & tranny.
The carb is another 'priority' item, so the duals will have to wait.... :(
For your car the Edelbrock EPS gets my vote.It will give you room to grow in HP later and will fit with the 17.00 complete Summit air filter 14X3 like Ed uses
I have a rebuilt 650 Holley 4777 double pumper with the choke tower removed if interested,it is VERY reasonablly priced,a chokeless Holley will start in very cold weather also. I will give you a small solid lifter cam if you want it,it is new but would need lifters bought. Those and some 25.00 Z28 springs you would be on your way to a HP gain for cheap
I would higly recommend the RPM Air Gap or RPM.. Flows great.. Check out my older post , It Will fit... you have 1/2" + more than I did to work with. Use the LT1 Drop base circa 1969-1972... Many cars had these as stock..., mine did.
Intake Manifold, Stock Cast Iron from 71 L48
F = 2.69” R = 4.375”
Intake Manifold, Weiand alum. p/n 8004 (action plus)
F = 3.50” R = 4”
Intake Manifold, Edelbrock alum. p/n 2101 (performer)
F = 3.50” R = 4.60
I have the Weiand 8004 & it has NO provision for EGR. With your application in mind I think you'll be happy with W 8004 ... no hood clearance probs either.
