I know this is for Corvette's but I've gotten so much info here for my 68 coupe I thought I'd throw this out there. I recently got a 69 Camaro SS 4 speed clone. After finding casting# it's a 78-90 454. Engine VIN has been milled off so no help there. I'm sure it's probably smog era car so not expecting much. Found numbers K145 and 445 and hi perf pass near oil filter. Also found 1/4" plug forward of oil filter and 1/2" plug near filter. I read somewhere this was to signify 2 bolt or 4 bolt engine. Any help decoding is appreciated. Looking for miss in engine now. Pics will follow soon as time to learn how. Thanks, Tom
The only way to know for sure will be to drop the pan. I have two and four bolt blocks just as you describe. High Perf Pass....That's a joke unless it is a tall deck it will say TRUCK or MAR or both.
The old pipe plug theory can go either way.
Looks to be a November 14 1975 block Look just forward of the intake near the water pump you may find the numbers there.
If the holes by the oil filter are drilled and tapped chances are-99%- that it's a 4 bolt. I have a virgin "289" casting 454 Feb 11/75 4 bolt block that I have no clue what I'm going to do with it. Hi Perf Pass is no guarantee of a 4 bolt- just like SBC "010" being a 4 bolt.
I do though have a question regarding the stamp pad number on a complete tunnel rammed BBC I acquired. It reads-TA?(a slanted 1 or I) 541837. No date code stamp at all. Very odd no? Casting number is 14015445 '79 4 bolt block. Input anyone?
