i realize that most are the "fake" ones but if you add a quick fill gas cap the illusion is there. So my question is who makes the best one for our cars?

Mustalgia makes one of the better ones, it mounts using the 4 stock gas lid mounting screws.
Mine is the same as the mustalgia cap but I got it through a company that sells L-88 equipment like flares and FIA lights and covers, can't remember the name. They were first class to deal with.
actually mine was the best
It was a prototype off liverpools racer
Mine is all fake poser,
I reworked the mounting, it bolts to the stock trap door hinge
I like that the flange covers the finger pull trough

I picked up one off a Viper.
Has the polished look instead of the chrome look.
I think I paid $100 for it a couple years back.
Have not mounted it yet.
I recently bought mine from Mustalgia. I think the big difference with the Mustalgia piece is that it completely replaces the stock fuel filler door hinge and pivot. There are others on the market that replace the lid but still bolt to the stock hinge.
That would be a great way to use the Lemans cap with the existing stock tank setup. The cap would just be a cover and not have a connecting neck all the way to the tank.

It's a great looking piece my turn off was it leaves the finger divot and that makes it look unfinished of not thought out to me,
When I reworked mine from Liverpool mine uses the stock hinge,
But for plug and play the mustang one is about it.

I do not believe they make these for the older larger mouth tanks only the unleaded fuel tanks, and I scored a couple of these at a garage sale for .50 still in the package to flip on ebay, I had to look up what they fit in doing so I learned a lot of people had bad luck with these busting and parts going in the tank....

Where did you get the plate/flange below the gas cap?
I went the hard route and machined a mounting plate
which is now part of the deck. Filler is fully functional and bolts to the plate. Mine came from a racing outfit who are not a supporting vendor so shall remain nameless.
Pzark How did connect that cap to your tank or are you using a fuel cell.
I used a fuel grade hose with a hose clamp on the tank neck, typically used on older cars and it was a really good tight fit. The length of hose was such that the gas cap underside neck would slide into it and be proud of the attachment flange on the car body by about 1/10”. I had a large O ring at the top of the gas cap neck. As the gas cap gets screwed down it compresses the hose onto the O ring and seals of the connection, the hose is only about 3” long and a good 1 1/2” is on the tank neck and about 1 to 1 1/4” on the gas cap neck so it is pretty stiff. It works really well with no gas fumes or leakage even when it is standing on a hot day. To fuel I simply lift the top and gas up the tank. My tank is vented so it does not build up lots of pressure as in a sealed system. But other guys get the same look using a simpler method by making the Le Mans cap part of their gas flap. I just wanted a fully functional set up plus its a project for me. Hope this helps
