Default Pretronix Ignition Conversion

Help! First time on here so sorry if I'm not doing this right. Have a 74 stock 350 4 speed. Installed Pretronix kit in the original distributor cap (per instructions) and car won't fire. I simply hooked the red and black Igniter wires respectivly to positive and negative terminals on stock coil. Currently I have two wires coming from the fire wall (one is black and the other is silver cloth and both are factory soldered together) going to negative post on the coil. There is only the new red wire from the kit and a capacitor wire going to the coil positive terminal. Any one here have any advice or pictures to share?

I believe the cloth covered double wire is from ignition and12V starter bypass to coil and goes to the POSITIVE terminal on the coil, not negative. I converted my 69 so the wiring might be a bit different. Also, if that is a resistor wire, you are going to have to run a full 12V 12gauge wire from the IGN terminal on the fuse box under the dash but it should start and run without that.

Which Pertronix unit? If it's the Pertronix III you will need full 12 volt power with ignition on to the positive on the coil as indicated above by CG. The factory points resistor wire going to the positive on the coil is only about 7-9 volts. The resistor wire can be taped and set aside. If Pertronix III you also need to replace the coil. I just did this conversion. Working good.

I have the basic Ignitor (1181). So I think I got this, Silver/cloth wire to +on Coil, black wire coming from firewall is not used. Ignitor Black wire to - on Coil and Ignitor red wire to + on Coil a well as a 12 volt source from Ign.. Ill try this later after my home town parade (that I won't be driving my vette in)

I had that problem with my 63 SWC. I did a straight 12v connection and then it started. The resistor takes away voltage and the motor will not start. Bypass the resistor. It is a straight connection. Easy Peezy
