Default O2 Sensor Location

Hello Everyone,

I plan on installing a set of Doug's Side pipes on my 81, my question is does the O2 Sensor need to go into the Header collector or can I install it in one of the down pipes?

Thanks for all responses

It needs to be in a place that gets hot ,its needs to read all 4 cylinders. It needs to be at 1-or-2 oclock so that you don't have condensate.so I would go at near end of the collector or at the pipe coming from the header.check to see where the best place is for when you have to replace the sensor.

That is what I did. I know it's hard to drill a hole in a brand new header but you are going to love the O2 gauge. If that is what you are installing, you are in for hours and hours of fun.

Well the issue moving the O2 is heat as it uses exhaust heat to work. If you place it in only 1 tube it's not very representative of all 8. If it were mine I would wire in a 3 wire heated sensor as u only need to find a power source for that 1 heater wire. I believe they don't draw much power/amps. That way u can place the sensor where u choose. BTW the closer to the collector the better though u still want it ahead of the cat/converter.

Hope this can help.

Are you running the original ECM and E4ME carb?

It should be as close to the original spot as possible in the flow, so it does no tell the ECM things are different and to adjust incorrectly.

A question for Tim here. Are there any C3 side pipe headers that have the AIR pump fittings? I can't seem to find any large diameter tube (1 & 7/8") long tube headers for my C3 let alone w/AIR fittings. The only large diameter tube headers (1 & 7/8") for my '74 C3 are side pipe headers.

I can't answer your question, you would think that someone would make 1 & 7/8 long tube headers. I took the air pump off of my car so i don't need headers with the air fittings. I know that Doug's doesn't make them.

Them are nice headers. I'd have to say those are as nice as headers can be made. But not cheap.

Thx for the tip.
