82 coolant temperture sensor probloms

1. Why did you take the CTS out?
2. Did you know that you cannot just turn the dizzy without first disconnecting the EST wire?
Now for my suggestions.
1. All that's needed for the CTS if the one you removed was original is a two wire weather pack type. It is much better than stock.
2. The dizzy is HEI and is controlled by the ECM. So if you did not disconnect the wire, the ECM will constantly readjust the timing electronically.
Do you have a 82 corvette GM service manual? If not, get one. It's a huge wealth of information on troubleshooting a CFI motor/electrical issues. It fully shows how to troubleshoot the problem you are having.
Here's a little tip on CFI. If you have an issue that sets the CEL, that's means that the ECM is not happy with the input from that system and sets the error code. In that case "always" troubleshoot starting with the first code number displayed and then work in order from there. If you still have an issue and no CEL, the ECM is happy and it is more than likely to be a mechanical issue that the ECM doesn't care about, monitored or concerned with. There also can be a conditions that the ECM seems ok, no CEL, but is bad.
I hope this helps.

BTW... the coolant sensor will not prevent your '82 from running, just running correctly. You have more going on than just the sensor.
