I just installed my new gauges in the center console of my 79. They are autometer artic white. Oil pressure, water temp, volt meter, fuel and clock. Took first ride this morning to check out function of the gauges. All worked fine................However I did have one glitch. Seems like every time I do one thing I mess up something else. Well the headlights decided to open all by themselves. I turned on the lights and then off and they closed. also the with the a/c on the air will not switch to the upper duct only to the floor. I suppose I disconnected something?? somewhere??
any ideas?
thanks
Terry

Where's the pictures of your gauges? Can't wait to see them.
I could see doing replacement gauges some day but I'd really want some sort of small, attractive custom plate that I could put over the branding that seems to inevitably come with all aftermarket gauges. -A C3 or even C7-style corvette logo over the maker's branding would be PERFECT, IMHO.
Did you just use a Drexel to make the pods round? The bottom of each pod is flat or did they slip in and did you trim the back. I've had a set of the Phantom II gauges ready to go in but have been too lazy. Maybe this winter. Nice job, maybe other pictures?

The alternator needs to see the resistance through that bulb to initiate charging. That bulb left me stranded once with a discharged battery I'd be very curious to see what the system voltage is when the motor is running. You should see between 13.8 and 14.2 volts. You'll want to do this with a DMM for most accurate reading, but the Autometer gage should be a good indicator of whats going on too. But DMM would be best.

The voltage is as you said I can hook up the bulb if it is necessary

My experience was that light did not come on at startup, I didnt notice it until the motor was missing badly, down on power, and and the voltage gage read below 12V. After the tow home I recharged the battery, then noticed the GEN light did not come on with key on, and the alternator was not charging when started. Took the bulb out, filament looked fine, replaced into socket, and it worked again. Started the car and the alternator was charging again. All I can think of is some light corrosion at the contacts.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
