Default 1982 electric radiator fan

I turn the key on and the fan comes on every time. No matter if at start up or has been running for hours. as long as the key is on, the fan is on. Is this right? I thought it was supposed to come on when it reaches a certain temp.

It sounds wrong to me; do you have it wired through a fan controller or do you have an EFI controlling it? -We need a little bit more information on how you wired the fans.

If you did nothing to the factory wiring, I would check the temp sending unit.

Everything on this car appears to be original. I changed the Coolant Temperature Sensor thinking that was the problem. No change.

Terry is correct- you most likely have problem with your temp sending unit.

The unit is located on the passenger side of the engine and "under" the exhaust manifold. This unit measures the temp of the water and comes on when the water temp reaches (from memory so don't bust me) 238 degrees.

Clearly your fan and wiring all work hence having it run all the time. The bet is that your sending unit is defective in the closed position and the fan runs.

The simple test is to disconnect the wiring plug at the sending unit. If it goes off you have an issue with the sender. If the fan continues to run, you have (or maybe the PO did some Bubba) an alternative power source.

With my 82, when I would get home from work, and shut the engine down, and then turn the key onto the "run" position, the secondary fan would run. If fact it may have been running with the AC off also.....But not to worry, especially in the summer, you now have both fans on to keep the temps low.....I'd never had any trouble with mine if both fans were running, and maybe even with the AC off. JMO......
