Automatic transmission (TH350C)
I always wanted a manual transmission like the Tremec but after a lot of thinking, I may keep my automatic transmission. I'm building a 400 hp 400 ft of torque and I wonder if my transmission will handle it. It has been rebuilt 5 year ago and has about 15000 miles on it. My car is for daily use in the summer with about 1 or 2 time to the track per year. I like when it shift smooth but if I have to, I would put a shift kit in it.

You're obviously a fellow '81 owner. I'm not pleased with the performance of my 350C (had to disconnect the converter lockup line) and have been thinking of options. Please let me know what you do and how it works.

Turbo-350's are really stong trannys if they are in good shape. If i were you and building a 400 hp motor i would just put in a shift kit and torque converter. I would only switch trannys if you are worried about having overdrive to save gas or something where you do alot of highway driving.

The turbo 350c is just a normal 350 with lockup valve body and torque converter. Shame the normal 350 torque converters won't just swap out. It's a cheap reliable trans. If the 350c goes out, a normal 350 is a cheap alternative.
Mine has 96K miles on it and 3K with ZZ4 power in place of 1980 L82. I may go the 200R route when the time goes since it is a direct bolt in for a 4 speed automatic.
