I had customer call me last night with what he thought was 2 pairs of Morel Bushing lifters that had pre-mature failure. They had broken the tie bars and spun in the bore. This put a deep groove in the camshaft on these lobes.
This engine had not made the power we had suspected in would but for a pump gas BBC it was still 720HP plus.
While on the phone he sent me some pictures. The Smoking Gun was in this picture:
The BBC lifter WILL FIT IN THE BORES UPSIDE DOWN. ALWAYS CHECK THAT YOU HAVE THE ARROW POINTING UP.

Stuff like this makes me cringe. Just like ignoring the stamped numbers on bearing caps, con rods, pistons and other internal parts. The markings are there for a purpose. At least this installer will not make the same expensive mistake again.

The owner of the engine. He had the short block built then put cam, lifters and heads on it himself. He understands and glad we figured it out with a picture.
The trouble is, with offset lifters the upside down link bar is holding the lifter rollers at the wrong angle on the cam. The rollers were not rolling...

Oh....ok, having never built a big block, i was imagining the pushrod recess facing the cam and for the life of me was trying to understand how the one of these things is not like the other didn't ring like a bell. Thanks grant, much clearer now.
