Thanks for the tip! Actually, I was replacing the plastic circuit board on the back of the dash... the one that powers the lights and such. I could not figure out how to release the clips, and subsequently the trace plate...
It took a little fussing but I simply, carefully, worked them out with a med screwdriver and a pair of needle nose.
Thanks for the test procedure, I will use it! Does the Speedo needle come off the same way? Both needles are faded and I'd like to paint them while I have things apart.

How to remove the tach needle the safe way.
After assembling the speedo, you'll see me re-set the needle only I goofed and had to pull it off again so if you watch this video it'll show you how to safely pull the speedo needle.
