How do I lock the steering shaft? When I put the Lock Plate Removal tool on the steering shaft and try to depress the lock plate, the shaft sides up with the removal tool. The lock plate doesn't depress.
you need the special made lock screw for this.
basically a 1/4" screw with a square head ground on it. it is the only way.
I took a 1/4 bolt and cut the head off. Then ground a slot in it, to act as a screw. Tightened as tight as I could with a screwdriver, will try a bolt. Maybe can get it tighter with a head on it.
Use a 5/16-18 NC set screw or a #20 Allen screw. Thread the screw into the upper steering shaft in place of the star screw. That will lock the upper shaft from moving as you use the tool to compress the lock plate.
