hey guys, im new to the corvette forum here so i hope this is the right place for this. I recently picked myself up an 82 C3 with the CB option in the deal of a lifetime. However, when my father and I were putting the cover on we accidentily bent the antenna the wrong way and the cheap CB load coil piece broke. It's only about a 1cm square on the bottom, but is still fully attached to the antenna. It just wont stay static on the antenna to hold up the top portion of the antenna.
ive looked all over the internet, and replacement parts seem to be hiding inbetween a yeti and a unicorn.
I'm wondering, would it be sufficient to just glue the broken piece back together and then glue the CB load coil to the antenna mast? Would this cause any issues with the antenna going up and down?
On my 81 I recall the load being up the antenna shaft, perhaps your antenna isn't stock,
I loved that radio in my 81 I peaked the cb up and ran a Wilson antenna...ah the 80's
The load is used to trick so to speak the cb into thinking it is longer but coiling wire so it has to be connected in some way to the metal mast, it's been about 30 years since I tore into one and cant recall how it was connected,
You could just get a normal power antenna and then a cb radio car antenna splitter and bypass the factory splitter, I did a google hunt "power antenna cb am fm and there is one or two out there
