attached is a photo of a 79 column that I am going to cut the shroud. Jim Shea paper says to cut it to 2.2 inches. Just want to verify if this mark that I placed looks about the right area. Thank You
Sorry, I'm not familiar with this modification, but I just read through the instructions by Jim Shea. If your mark is 2.2" from the edge of the shroud closest to the key switch, then that's what his diagrams indicate as the correct cut line.

Thank You . Just wanted a second look before I cut
Just as a point of clarification: Even though all C3 steering columns were very similar (1969 through 1982) the instrument panel was revised in 1978. When the dash changed, the plastic shroud had to be lengthened to match the dash. BTW, all of the above does not apply to the 1968 C3.
The 1978 and later steering columns all had headlamp dimmer switches as part of the steering columns. So you can stop stamping on that floor mounted dimmer switch. Also the complicated Steering Column/Transmission Shift Interlock System was replaced by the "Finger Inhibitor" lever on the steering column that you had to trip in order to rotate your ignition key to OFF-LOCK.
So if you want to install a later steering column into an early C3 it is a fairly easy modification to shorten the shroud to match the early instrument panel. All steering column hard mounting points are the same.
