I have a 1969 corvette and I've recently replaced the badly worn valve train with a new comp cams package. However, before realizing that it was the valve train that was the problem I adjusted/messed with damn near everything else (carbs, timing, ignition, etc.) Now that the car is up and running I'm experiencing lag and the occasional backfire upon initial acceleration up until the secondary carbs kick in then flies like the beast it is. Any hints as to where the problem may be? I have the holley 3x2 carb setup by the way

Problem in the accelerator pump would be where I would focus my attention. Could be maladjusted (there are plenty of tutorials online and on the Holley Tech page for how to properly adjust the accelerator pump shot and it's very easy to do properly), a bad diaphragm, dirt in the discharge channel, worn check ball.
Yeah, it could be other things depending upon what fiddling you did but I'd start with the pump shot.
It could also be an ignition problem, but you don't normally get a lean backfire from an ignition issue. You just get lethargic acceleration.
Thanks for the advice, that's where I'll start my investigation. I forgot to mention one thing, the issue only seems to occur once the engine warms up. When it's cool it doesn't lag.
