Default Rear Suspension question for you???

I know this topic has been gone over countless times again and again. And I have used the search tab for all of the info I could find. And I see that some of you still use the steel rear spring.
And I do admit that on all of the C3's I have owned in the past, I have changed that out. And I know about the weight savings and the better ride, etc. But back in those days, I don't feel that there was the shock technology that there is today.
So with that thought, would you or have some of you kept the rear steel spring and used the QA1 shocks? And if so, how do you like the ride and handling?
Carlisle is approaching soon, and I want to make a good decision regarding spring and shock selection, for my 74 BB. On my 82 with the FE7 suspension, I did remove the rear steel spring and did replace it with the VBP 340 lb spring I had them make up, intending to use on the 74. And used the Bilstein Sports first and then changed to the HD's which I thought were better for me. Was just unhappy with local bumpy roads with that system.
Thinking QA1 non-adjustable this time. Thoughts, opinions welcome...

Thanks...............Tom

I just replaced the steel spring in my 70 LS5 and went with a new steel spring and the Bilstein HD's. I like the ride height in the rear and the handling is quite good.

I went Steel because I see too many pictures up here with Crazy Ride Heights.
I used Bilstein Sport Shocks.
Mine sits where I like it and the ride is vastly improved. Love the Bilstein's

I changed my 7-leaf spring with another steel 7-leaf. At the same time I changed out my old shocks for QA1 non-adjustables. Car rides just fine and I'm very, very happy with them. My ride improved again just recently when I put on 18" wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Appreciate the replies.....my game plan now is to not buy another spring, (now have 3) but use what I already have and switch them out if necessary.
Will probably redo the steel spring on the 74 BB and try the QA1's non adjustable units as resdoggie did.
If not happy, will take the 340lb spring off the 82 and put on the 74 as it was originally intended to go.....
And put back the original 82 steel FE7 spring back on the 82 and be done with it. As mentioned, the 82 has Bilstein HD's all the way around and handles and drives good, just don't like the feel on the bumpy roads.....I know, I know stay off of the bumpy roads.....
Plus the 82 may go up for sale, not sure yet.....
