Default Turn indicator lever return spring adjustment?.

Hi all. My 1978 turn signal lever does not turn off equally when doing a left and right turn. It does turn off in both directions but you have to turn the steering wheel more on the right turns for the turn lever to turn off again.

It feels like it needs to be adjusted to be centered again. Is there any adjustment on this in the tilt telescopic steering column that I have ?

The steering wheel and shaft are centered so I dont think it is in the allignment.

Is there a guide that someone can point me to for this?

There is a right and left spring on the turn signal switch. Might have one broke, and you have to turn it further so the other spring cancels it?

Mine was like that when I got it, but the PO had the rag joint in off clocked, and moved the wheel on the shaft to center it.

Thanks vbgod1. How do I get to the springs to check if one is broken?

You need to get the steering wheel and lock plate off. Wilcox has this pictorial. http://repairs.willcoxcorvette.com/w...stallation.pdf

I usually look thru your site first if there is a procedural question, if only to save my one finger typing on the IPad.

And thanks for the shop tour this summer. That place is a car guys dream repair area. When I hit the lotto, I am a gonna build something like that to keep busy in.

there is no adjustment for centering, most likely part of the plastic has broken off.
buy a replacement assemble before you tear into the column, return if you don't need it.
different switch for tilt Telescopic so specifi, also you must have a column lock plate removal tool,
and if it is Tilt /telescopic you need the special lock bolt to disassemble the column.

An update to an older thread. After getting the correct tools for disassembly and a replacement horn contact retainer (as the original one broke apart when I touched it) I was able to explore.

What I found was that a prevous repairer had replaced one of the springs. Unfortunately when he reassembled it he put the lock plate and the lower horn contact plate 180 degrees out of position. This resulted in the indicators not cancelling after completing the turn and straitening the steering wheel.

Corrected this and its all working better than I thought it could.
Thanks again guys.
