Default ZZ4 motor for 79 vette

I am hoping to confirm something. I am considering a ZZ4 crate motor for my 79 vette. Can someone confirm that the this motor will fit with the stock manifold it comes with WITHOUT any issues with hood clearance. I don't want to make any modifications to the L82 hood. thanks for the wisdom.

That shouldn't be a problem. What carb and air filter will you be running?

I believe the ZZ4 comes with d port heads with angled spark plugs. Im not saying the stock manifolds wont fit but they may cover a small part of the port. Also not sure how the plugs would work. But my son has a ZZ4 in his Camaro and he loves it.

My 78 which should be the same as 79.

My engine ZZ383. Similar setup to the ZZ4

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-my-78-a.html

The stock intake and exhaust do not fit the vortec heads.

I used the RPM Air-Gap Vortec intake (Edelbrock states will not fit under stock corvette hood ) but if you use a drop base air cleaner you can make it fit.

Check the carb base height dimensions (ZZ4 supplied intake ) and compare to the 7516. If they are the same then you should get everything to fit under the stock hood using a 1.5" drop base air cleaner.

Exhaust manifold I went with a D-port header from sanderson. I still needed to dent 1 tube to clear the steering box.

My wife's 78 has a ZZ4 in it. I used the stock ZZ4 intake that came with the engine, an Edelbrock 1806 650cfm carb and an aftermarket drop base air cleaner with a 2 inch filter. It all fits under the original L-82 hood with room to spare. It even has the stock type thick fiberglass hood insulation and it does not touch the air cleaner anywhere.

I have a stock zz4 in my 71 with the zz4 intake and my original ramhorn exhaust manifold. No problem with the angle plugs.

We haven't locked in on a carb yet. The standard Rochester needs to go. And my preference is to keep the stock air filter if possible. If you have a suggestion, I welcome your advice.
