Re: First time C3 owners, check this out! (Rick Church)
Wow! Your dealer gives you GM wholesale pricing? (Are you wearing your uniform when you go to the dealer? :) ) I am happy when my dealer gives me retail list price! GM actually has a program that allows their dealers to charge much higher than GM list price for small single items to retail customers, so you have to be careful. Any time I can get a GM part # for a part, I check the pricing on the GMpartsdirect.com website, then I check availability/pricing with my dealer. I have ordered quite a few small items from my local dealer. It is often futile however, to just ask them about a part for a 68 corvette. They either don't have the resources or the know-how to find the right part for a 30+ year old car! :) MJ

My Local GM Dealer has a Parts department that couldnt find their butts with boyh hands and a flashlight. My dog knows more.
Consider yourself VERY lucky Rick.

I have to agree. I went looking for torque converter bolts there. Parts guy disappeared around the back and came back a few moments later. "manual or an automatic?"

Rick, you are right. I have the same prob as everyone else here that the parts counter folk, but if you know what you want (parts number) and know what to ask for, you may just get lucky.
By the way, did I miss that you got the new vette or are you still looking?

My Tate Chevy parts guy (Matt) goes out of his way to help. He's researched parts for me, by looking through the history, change dates, cross referenced them and even faxed me printouts (long distance to my office) when I was ordering stuff on the phone. He's also returned special orders (which strictly speaking aren't returnable) if they didn't meet my originality configuration criteria. :yesnod: (I've actually only done that once though.) Plus we get a discount for being Corvette Annapolis members and they don't charge the extra fee if I'm ordering a $1.00 bolt. ;) Oh and he'll whip out the 'general parts' bins (I think that's the right GM term for it) at a moment notice when I need a connector or hose or something else which doesn't have a year specific part number assigned to it. :) He's also had them put special order parts on the same day parts run to the warehouse (which they usually only do for for the service dept or other auto shops). :D It's taken a few years of going in there at least once a month (sometimes once a week) to get to this point though.
