engine misses
. spark plugs are checked and are ok
. wires are checked and are ok
. emissions systems checked and ok
. fuel filter changed
. vacuum leaks checked and ok
. idle speed and mixture are ok
. distributor cap is not cracked, distributor components cleaned
One thing I did not find and have no idea what his purpose is. From de distributor a cable goes to a sort of filter which is bolted on the engine. One of the wires is lose. Can this be the problem and what is the purpose of this element. (see pictures)
It is the grey element in the middle of the picture.
Can you help or direct me to a possible existing thread. I've looked a lot but dit not find any answer.

Your engine miss if everything you have checked is ok ( not sure how you checked/tested each item) but you might have a lean / rich condition with the carb. (AFR) a long with improper timing causing a miss.
Other things to look at is measure and map out your mechanical / vacuum advance curves to see if they are similar to factory.
eg. mechanical advance start RPM- then total advance degrees @ RPM.
do the same for vacuum advance @ what HG max advance and how much it retards timing @ low vacuum.

Start with this one.
