Default Another "How many miles driven?" Survey

I can't remember anyone asking this before and the only thing a search showed up was the current "how many miles this summer" question.

I guess I'm curious because I've had my Corvette for sale and most people act shocked when I tell them it has 150k miles on it. It's 25 years old; that's only 6000 miles per year (an average year for me is about 7k or 8k). I can't help but wonder how many miles they expect to be on a 25 year old car.

Anyway, I'm not sure what "actual" miles are, or "original" miles are, but I'm just curious:

How many miles has your C3 been driven since the day it left the factory?

I think a better question might be. Miles/year.

Mine has 49K for a 72 car. I have all the DMV records for the car so I know it is accurate. The car has had 14 owners and sat outside a lot. That is why it needed a total resto. It was abused for the first 10 years then sat. A few owners never drove it. The original owner was a 62 year old guy.

165K miles and I am accumulating at 20K per year. Car runs as good as a new car. Does not use a drop of oil.

Chris@VetteFinders, Miles per year would tell me what the current owner is doing, but in the case of Larry82's post, his 20k/year would be 400k on his 20 year old car versus the 165k. I'm just wondering what kind of mileage these cars have already seen.

Gordonm, that's cool to have that kind of history on your car. It's also an interesting observation on how general treatment over the years can mean just as much as miles driven.

Thanks for the input.

I too have DMV documents showing the added mileage through the years. The odometer says 35,???, it has rolled over once, so 135,??? on my 71.

Odometer on my 80 says 85,???, I haven't sent off for documentation yet but looking through this car inside and out I would be very suprised if it has rolled over.

I put less than 2,000 miles on my 71 a year.

Now my 80, once finished will be a daily driver, it will see lots of smiles.

[QUOTE] How many miles has your C3 been driven since the day it left the factory?[QUOTE]

Most of us don't have a clue.

I find the mileage statements on these cars amusing. You will notice on most 25 year old cars that are for sale they all say less than 100K. Most are in the 40/ 50 K range. Does 2K a year sound reasonable?

I meant take the CURRENT miles on the odometer and divide by how many years old the car is.

My 78: 2,320 (accurate)

My 79: 3,826 (probably accurate, but unknown for sure)

my 2002: 3,500

My 72 has nearly 200K. It's not ready for the museum yet so I'll keep putting on my 8K a year average.

Chris, Gotcha. Yup, that (average MPY for the life of the car) would've worked.

Yikes! My 6k is starting to sound like a lot. That's surprising.

I bought my car to DRIVE and put 1300+ miles on it over the Labor Day week end. It has been driven to Bowling Green, Ky Three times and trailerd there 3 times since the 94 Grand Openning of the NCM. The rest of the summer I put aleast 2500 miles a year on it since I bought it in the fall of 93.

105,000 or 4,565 milesper year (23 yers old) I'm pretty sure that's accurate, but who knows on a 23 year old car.

i bought it used. i have no idea.
it was common practice to disconnect the speedometer on trips. This is why people are shocked with 150,000. There is no excuse for that!

Just rolled over 30K on my 81.

AVG = 1,428 annually. Put over 3k on this summer going to Carlisie and NCM Sharkfest.

I ordered my 80 new in 1979. From my office at Broad Ripple High School, I saw it arrive on the car trailer at Bud Wolf Chevrolet. I pulled the 350 at 25,000 and put a nitrous 406 in it in 82. My baby saw a lot of street racing in the 80's. "Aw shucks, it's jist a stock 350 with headers". Pretty much original except engine, tranny and interior. Never wrecked. 247,352.1 miles of smiles.
