I am posting this here as well as the C1-C2 Forum. One of the benefits of supporting a C-2, C-3 and a C-4 is being able to belong to 3 Forums. Anyway, one of the C-3ers may be able to help me since the C-2s and C-3s are brothers under the skin.
The '63 carb is causing me a problem. Gas everywhere and won't start. My mechanic says sounds like the float is stuck, thus flooding. The carb was rebuilt last year. He said to dry it out real well and give the float a rap to see if it frees up. Although not a mechanic (as my question will attest) but it sounds to me, like a likely problem.
How do I give the float a nudge? Do I need to take the top of the carb off? If so, do I risk messing up some obscure adjustment? Any suggestions will be more than welcome.
If it's the Holley just tap the side of the float bowl. If it's a quad you should be able to see down the top next to the air cleaner stud, push something smal down there and see if there is movement.
I rebuildt my carb with a quality gm kit and had the same problem a few days later. Turned out to be a bad float. It got heavy and sank.
