1/2" Wheel Studs
Has anyone used 1/2" wheel studs with aluminum stock wheels? Also, are there close ended lug nuts that will work with this set-up?
I'm planning on getting the Tom's 31 spline outer stub axles and they are offered with 1/2" studs. But, I want to use them with my stock 1978 wheels.

I haven't used them with factory aluminum...but I have with Rally's.
You'll need to drill your brake rotors...but no big deal.

Isn't that a machining operation? Or at least done carefully on a drill press. And what about the fronts?

I used 1/2 inch studs on my 69 , I used my drill press to open the stock rotors ,easy enough to do.
I ran aftermarket halibrand rims. If I didnt cut the studs they were too long for closed end nuts.
So I cut them and used .......ford..... wheel nuts.
as for the front , I left them standard.
Toms axles have a dual pattern hole set up , I know with just putting the bigger studs in a chevy axle you have to modify the back of the stud to clear the shape of the axle .

I just used the drill press also. In addition to opening the hole I had to chamfer the hols on the back side of the rotor to clear the little part of stud that protrudes past axle flange.

I made pilot reamer to open up the holes on mine.
