chrome bumpers on a 1977 vette?
Is it possible to take off the fiberglass bumpers and put chrome front and rear bumpers on a 1977 corvette? If so what would be involved in doing this? How costly would it be to have a mechanic do it for you? Is it a difficult thing to do? Has it been done before? How would it look in your opinions?

Anything's possible with enough fabrication. If you don't believe it, ask the guys that took Pontiac Fiero's and made em look (roughly) like F 40's.
Your question would involve MAJOR MAJOR fiberglass work, changes in the frame for bumper brackets and probably other stuff I'm not even thinking of without going and looking at a car to refresh my memory which ain't what it used to be.

Since you specifically ask about paying someone to do this work, my advice would be to sell the '77 and buy a chrome bumper car. I agree with Solidlifters, you're looking at 100+ hours of labor and lots of parts to do this conversion. Then you'll be left with a '77 that's worth less than it was when you started.

Off the top of my head, you'ld have to:
Have a new rear frame crossmember welded in (from 68-73) $$
Buy the bumper brackets and rear bumpers $600+ new
Have the rear fiberglass changed over $$
New one piece front end - easiest $1000
Buy the front support/brackets/grills/bumper $1000 new
Paint - depends on the $$$ you have left over.
Of course, if you do it yourself, you would be able to save some
$$ at the expense of time. Not many people would attempt this. :D

Agree with the others. As a 77 owner myself you would be much advised to buy an original chrome bumper model rather than have a "77 with chrome bumpers". a hybrid. :mad

Your '73 front end will not work with a chrome bumper. You'll have to replace the front fenders, surround, and front valance panel along with the grilles and all the front bumper supports and frame extensions. Same thing applies as above: you'll spend lots of dough and end up with a car that's worth less than when you started.
