What is the electronics in the battery compartment?
Well I was recurving the distrib. this weekend when I ran into a bad battery connection which led to removing the battery to clean the battery compartment. While at it I found some type of electronic box just in front of the battery. What is this module for or control? Thanks

On an '81 it's the computer. 2 connectors on the p.side of it.
edit: just had a look at your site. Have you got any idea how much those VB 460lb springs lifted up the front??

UKPaul,
Thanks that is what I thought it may be but wasn't sure. I'm not real sure how much it raised it for the original springs but it did raise it a tad. I was measuring 28" to the lip on the fender after installing them. I cut one coil off the new springs and now measure 27" and it is setting much better. I will post pics of before and after in the next day or two.

UK Paul,
You will notice a considerable difference in force need to push down on the fenders to get spring action. As far a drivability it really feels firm and responsive, but I have only been around the block on smooth surfaces. Also I installed all new bushing and tie rod ends so I can't really compare just how much the springs are contributing to the handling. Hope this helps at least a little bit.
Re: What is the electronics in the battery compartment? (Ybnormal)
Ybnormal, did you have a ride height problem, or were you trying to address some other issue by installing the springs. My 81' sits way too low and I want to get the ride height back up to that 27-28" range, and am thinking I will go with these springs.
Hey Paul, hows everything on the other side of the lake? :jester Do you have a ride height issue you're working on?

YBnormal: Thanks for the info - just what I wanted to hear :)
Justin: Things are good. The lake isn't evaporating & dumping itself on our green & pleasant land at the moment & the Vette is running well :D
My ride height is OK, but as the roads surfaces are very bad around here (brilliantly described as "treacherous" by another forum member who's been in these here parts), I keep getting steering twitches (bump steer?) when I hit some of the bumps/holes with one front wheel. This gets really annoying, so I figured that reducing the suspension movement by fitting stronger springs would reduce the geometry changes & minimise the problem. Well, that's the plan. Whether it works or not....... :(

Justin,
I just rebuilt the whole front end, control arm bushings, tie rod ends, shocks and new 460lb. springs. When I got it all reassembled it was sitting up more than with the original springs. Guess they had weakened over 21 years.

Have you thaught about installing slightly stiffer springs, multi valved shocks, and large swaybars?
The sways would keep the car going straght, one side drops, the other side doesnt know what to do...
The springs limit up and down movement, and the shocks help to slow down the first big hit from the hole in the road, but when you get out of the hole... its going to come up a little slower then normal...
I'm betting you could set something up like this, and keep your teeth in the same location
Re: What is the electronics in the battery compartment? (ZD75blue)
ZD: Thanks for the post. At the moment I've got the stock composite rear spring (330lb??) & front springs with a 1 1/8" front sway bar. I was planning on the VBP stronger front springs, smart struts & rear sway bar (3/4" or 5/8"). At the moment I've got Spax shocks (very popular here with the boy racers), but one looks like it's seeping, So I was going to replace them with Konis for 2 reasons:
1) I can get trade discount on them :D
2) After 20 years of trying different shocks on my bike, Konis are by far the best I've tried.
I sent Koni an email several months ago asking for part numbers of shocks for a C3 & if they had a unit suitable for a composite spring, but haven't had a reply. Obviously they don't want my business, so I was looking at fitting Bilsteins - any experience of them?
YBnormal: sorry about hijacking your post! ;)
