Default Cooling issues

ok. First post swapped out the mechanical fan for electric and now the car runs hot and vapor locks. Also swapped out carb and intake for edelbrock performer series. No ahroud. Do I need more air from my fan, say duals? Do I need shroud? What can I do. Any thing helps. Thanks oops, 1979 c3

Did the overheating start with the fan change? Is the car new and you are just finding existing issues? Sorry for the added questions, but more info is really required before we can provide good help.

Yes, you should have a shroud to help the fan pull air through the radiator, even with an electric fan. That would be my first item to deal with. Make sure it is sealed against the rad.

Next, make sure your fan is pulling enough cfm - it would help to know if you are mostly stock (aside from you carb/intake change). Many of the fans you see in auto parts stores are best used as an auxiliary fan and not strong enough to be the primary cooling fan.

If your engine is mild or close to stock, you probably don't need a fan that is pulling huge volumes of air, but a shroud is still a must.

You also mention vapor lock. Can you provide more detail (symptoms), as that is often more of a fuel related issue than a specific engine cooling issue (depending on what you actually mean by that term). If fuel is boiling and causing problems. that is another issue, not necessarily due to the engine overheating, but could be complicated by it.

Your fan is likely underrated......you need at least a 3500 cfm fan or combination of fans to cool a small block , more for a big block..

Make sure the fan is moving air through the radiator toward the rear of the car.

Is your timing advance correct after installing the distributor after the manifold swap? Retarded timing heats things up in a hurry.
