I recently took my '80 to one of the local Vette repair shops to find out why the A/C wasn't working well (low output, not much cooler air). They replaced a cracked line, fixed some blocked gates in the dash and recharged the Freon (yes, it's still R12). They said all the other components were in fine condition (compressor, evaporator etc). The air comes out better, but it ISN'T COLD. I didn't use the A/C much in the past, but since I'm currently our shopping for jobs, I'm trying to avoid showing up for interviews drenched in sweat (it's Texas...).
I assume this is the same basic system GM stuck in everything else, so I know it should be capable of cooling properly... or is this a common ailment with C3's that I wasn't aware of? I don't have the $ to change up to R134 yet; what steps should I take next?
Thanks!
Re: '80 Air Conditioning Problems... help? (page62)
I think you're on to something there. When I put the ZZ3 in (1995), we took off the old heater hoses because they looked cracked. They did have some kind of shut-off valve, which we neglected to replace when we put the new hoses on. This may be cheaper to fix than I thought!
(Any other ideas are still welcome... just in case).
