Hi There
I am getting ready to Dye my 74's Interior. I am spraying over the old trim. This being the case, do I need to Prime it first? I just finished taking all of it out of the car & scrubing it clean.
To prime or Not to prime ?????
You don't have to prime it. I cleaned mine with a rag damp with lacquer thinner to remove all the oils and grease. Once that's done spray the dye in thin coats. If you try to use thick coats it will obscure the grain pattern and not dry properly. Spray a thin coat and then wait 10 minutes before you do the next. Good luck.
-Simple Green works great for cleaning the parts.
-If the paint/dye runs, carefully wipe it immediately with a tissue, and spray another coat. It won't be noticeable.
-Avoid doing it on humid days.
I'm with them. I redid the interior of my CE. Just cleaned the parts off with laquer thinner and sprayed them three times very lightly. Looks like brand new now
Thanks for your suggestions, Let me ask you, once I use the dye, should I spray it with a sealer or anything, & would one can do all of the trim parts, I am buying new door panels , so I would not need it for anything other than the trim..
THANKS SO MUCH
I think I used 2 or 3 cans for all the trim and the dash. I didn't do my seats or door panels but I did everything else including the backs of the seats.
I used a quart and my air compressor with a spray gun. I did the seat bottoms, backs and T-top halo three times on all pieces. I didn't use a sealer afterward and I can't see any wear.
