I am getting the Edelbrock Performer Rpm Aluminum Heads, Rpm manifold and rpm camshaft to put on a 10-1 shortblock for my 81. The cam specs are below. According to a guide in Summit I need a stall 2000 rpm above stock. I don't see anything that fits that bill, I'm not even sure what stock stall speed is. I assume I need about 3000rpm stall. There seems to be a gap between 1500 above stock to approx 3400-3800 which seems kind of high. Any recomendations? Also my Trannsmission is a 700R4.

Re: Help, what Torque converter with this cam????? (dennisr)
Performer RPM cam isn't really that radical of a cam, I don't know what rear end you have, but even if you have a stock 3.08, the low first gear ratio of the TH700-r4 then 2200-2400 RPM stall should be plenty for a street driven car, I don't think I'd enjoy trying to drive a 3000 rpm converter around on the street.
The Performer RPM package is supposed to provide good Torque from 1500 to 6000 rpm.

Since you have a lockup TC you can get away with lots of stall. I have a 3500 stall in my 700R4. I've run as high as a 3800 and as low as 2800. The best is probably about 3000 9.5 inch with a big cooler.
I would also recommend a 700 like mine that is built without any kickdown. So you can go wide open throttle in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and never have to worry about it down shifting.
